The Openning Meeting  of EU Grant Project Implemented by Konak Municipality Is realised on 19 December 2023

The grant project entitled “Strategic Partnership for Awareness, Climate and Environment”, implemented Konak, Hamm (Germany) Saluzzo (Italy) Municipalities and Social Climate Association within the scope of the Town Twinning between Turkey and the EU – II For a Green Future Grant Programme, took start on 1 November 2023.

The Opening Meeting was attended  Konak Mayor Abdül Batur, Ambassador N. Gökçen Kaya, Izmir Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Folker Burgard, Climate and Environment Director of Hamm Municipality, Germany; Gaye Tuğrulöz, President of the Social Climate Association, Ceyhan Çiçek, EU Expert of the Directorate for European Union Affairs, and members of Konak Municipality Council. Project partner Andrea Momberto, Tourism and Youth Policies Officer of Italy’s Saluzzo Municipality also sent his best wishes with a video.

Within the scope of the project focusing on climate change and climate crisis, best practice examples within and outside Turkey will be examined on-site. A “Climate Summit” will be held with the participation of at least 20 national and international mayors, especially the members of the “Covenant of Mayors” of which Konak Municipality is a member, as well as project partners from Europe and Turkey. The achievements of the Climate Summit will be In light of all the data obtained, Turkey’s first “Climate Education Center” will be established in Konak. Trainings for youth and children will be planned and implemented at the Climate Education Center.
